You Don't Carry That Styrofoam Container With You While Fishing, Do You?

For many years I would buy live worms at the store, then stuff the worm container into my fishing vest or tackle box and go fishing. This was fine I suppose, but it was a pain in the butt. I never knew exactly where my worms were, and would have to spend time looking for them, rather than fishing. The container would invariably end up getting smashed as well, and whatever worms that didn't get used, would be wasted.

Then one day I went fishing with a friend of mine who's father, who incidentally became my fishing mentor, introduced me to an incredible idea. That idea was a bait bag. It was a little bag that hung off of his fishing vest and held his live worms. So he would buy his worms as all of us do, then when he got to his fishing area, he would pull the worms out of the container they were purchased in, and put them into his bait bag. This way his worms were literally, at his fingertips, ready to be used. I was intrigued art this solution to carrying worms while fishing.

As I observed him fishing, I noticed that with the help of the bait bag, he wasted no time baiting up. The bait bag was a great idea. In a two hour fishing trip he easily got an extra 30 minutes of fishing, just because of the time the bait bag saved him by holding his worms. I soon followed his directions and made my own bait bag. The other cool thing about a bait bag is the fact that when your done fishing, whatever left over worms you have can simply be returned to the original container and put in the fridge for the next fishing trip.

How on earth do you refill your bean bag chair? It seems almost impossible to consider how to contain the polystyrene beads. They redefine static cling, fly everywhere with little incentive and resist containment as if they had a mind of their own. How do you open the zipper of the super safe bean bag chair you purchased – they are designed to stay closed, not to open! Follow these simple steps and you will have a full, comfy bean bag chair once again.

1. Ideal Filling Conditions

Set yourself up inside in an area that has no breeze. Any airflow will cause the polystyrene beads to fly everywhere you do not want them to be. Find someone to help you as four hands are better than two when it comes to filling bean bag chairs.

2. Opening the Zipper

If you have a double locking zipper or if it is enfolded within a seam, uncover it enough to be able to slide a paper clip into the pull tab. This will allow you to pull the zipper back and get access to the center. If there is a little “lock” on the zipper, take a pair of pliers and pry the lock off. You can then unzip the zipper. You will have to use pliers to reapply the lock afterwards to ensure your bean bag chair zipper stays closed and is safe for use.

Your chair may come with a liner so opening the first layer is no problem. If your chair does not have a liner, do not open it until you are right ready to add the fill or disaster will strike.

3. Strategy

Everyone has their personal preference for how soft or firm they prefer for their bean bag chair so adjust as necessary.

Once the fill is added re-zip the zipper, ensure it is locked and you are done. You now have a refilled chair! The only thing left to do is to try and round up those pesky little beads that escaped during the filling process. Good luck!

Determining The Size Of A Bag Going Into A Box Or Round Container

Here is an example: box size 10 x 10 x 14

Add 2" to the first two dimensions (10 plus 2) x 10 plus 2 x 14), and 1/2 of the second number (10 divided by 2 = 5) added to the last dimension (5 plus14 = 19). Add 10" (10 plus 9 = 29) for fold over or tie off the bag. The bag size needed for this box size to tied off the bag is 12" x 12" x 29".

Another way is to use a flexible measuring tape and measure all around the box, divide that number in half and add two inches... this is your width. (10+10+10+10= 40 divided by 2 = 20 plus 4"=24). For the length, measure half way across the narrow side of the box bottom (5"). Plus the height of the box (5 plus 14") for the minimum length. Add additional material (10") for fold over and or tie off. Using this method the bag measurement is 24 x 29. Now since you know the total width needed, you can break it down further to a gusset bag.

Either way you figure it, you will be safe using the formulas above to provide your customer with a bag suitable for their box!

Round Container 1) To determine circumference of the bag, multiply the the diameter of the container by 3.14. Divide that total by 2 to get the flat width you need for your bag. (Add l inch for a looser fit.) 2) Add 1/2 of the diameter to the height of the container. Add 5 inches to this total for overhang. This is the total length of the bag needed. 3 )If tying bag, add 1/2 the diameter to the bag length in # 2
